Art in Cyprus

Discover art in Cyprus through numerous art galleries, private workshops and various Cyprus art and craft shops on the island.

cyprus sculpture

Artists have been coming to Cyprus for years, inspired by the dramatic scenery and relaxed way of life, spending the spring months in hillside villages staying in Agrotourism properties.

They breathe in the fresh mountain air and spend countless hours lost in thought focussed purely on developing their artistic talents.

Mediterranean Art

Many expats on the island have found art a wonderful channel of expression. Retired people looking for a new challenge often become hooked on different art and craft forms as a means of expressing themselves in ways they never could in their previous working lives.

As a result many small galleries keep cropping up on the island with a ready supply of art in various forms. These galleries regularly exhibit Cyprus art and crafts from the local area.

Polis has the Forza 9 gallery situated near the main square in the town and is always full of amazing artwork.

Then there is the En Plo gallery situated on Paphos harbour which has frequent exhibitions from local artists.

Art in Cyprus treasures can be also found in small villages like the Artemis Studio in Kissonerga near Paphos.

Several artists work here, including local sculptor Karen Betts.

Her recent pupils put on their first exhibition of sculptures, inspired by living on Cyprus. The work from one of those artists, Jenny Clarke, new to sculpture but experienced in other art forms including abstract painting, can be seen in the picture on this page.
