Here are some tips on getting the best car rental in Cyprus

Tip 1: Don't always go with a Cyprus car hire brand you already know. They MAY offer air miles with every booking but they are often more EXPENSIVE and you have to stand in a BIG queue to get your car at the airport as everyone else has booked with the same firm!

Tip 2: You can usually get a CHEAPER rental car in your resort if you shop around for half an hour. We've seen rates as low as EUR €12 per day in low season from local car hire firms eager to rent their vehicles.

Tip 3: Check your INSURANCE details carefully. Many firms do not include "sump" insurance as standard and if you take your vehicle off road on one of the many bumpy tracks and break the sump...you will have both a headache AND a big bill from the carhire company.

NB: Many Cyprus roads have potholes and, after heavy rain, verges have huge dangerous gullies in them so even the most cautious driver can break a wheel!

Tip 4: Always ask what the policy is on FUEL. Many car hire firms charge you up front for a full tank of fuel...at a MUCH higher rate than you would pay at the pumps. And some even ask you to bring it back with a full tank as well!

Make sure you just bring it back with the same amount of fuel as when you started. If the company won't agree to this, GO ELSEWHERE!

Tip 5: If you plan on touring the island, give yourself flexibility by using a car hire firm like Nova Car Hire that will allow one-way rentals from various locations throughout Cyprus. That way you can pick your car up from one place then use alternative transport or your own two feet to explore the island.
