Juicer Recipes

Best juicer recipes for a healthy detox using fresh seasonal fruit and vegetables from Cyprus.

phillipsjuicer Freshly extracted juice :)

I'm a huge fruit and vegetable fan and eat far more than the recommended 5 portions a day as we have 5 fruits with either muesli and yogurt or porridge just for breakfast. But I'd never thought about consuming fruit and vegetables using a juicer before. Until Al bought me a fabulous juicing machine for Christmas.

Amazon didn't actually deliver it until New Year's Eve, but no matter, as we've started 2013 with a super healthy freshly extracted glass of juice every day. And eliminated alcohol, coffee and tea from the diet for the next few weeks.

So what are my favourite juicer recipes so far?

Juicer Machines

Before I share my best juicer recipes, it's worth saying that a good quality juicer should ideally have a big shute to put your fruit and veg into and the capacity to extract every drop of juice so you don't miss out on any of the health benefits.

I looked at lots of juicer machines, but eventually opted for a Philips Whole Fruit Juicer, as it had loads of great reviews on Amazon and it came with a free juicer book from the famous Juice Master, Jason Vale.

Tip: I ordered my juicer machine pre-Christmas, but it is now 20% cheaper (during the January sale period) so it's worth looking to buy at Sale times to grab a bargain. This machine is currently unavailable but Amazon have similar machines now at a better price so take a look.

Phillips Juicer - My Favourite Juicer Recipes

I started by mixing up some of Jason's detox recipes, then experimented with what I had in the fridge. Using the new juicer was a breeze as you just pop everything into the wide shute, cram as much in as possible, then turn on and push the plunger to extract the "magic" as Jason Vale calls it.

You get a colorful soft pulp (see picture above) after juicing which I have been putting into a plastic container ready to go onto the compost bin. Apparently, one Amazon reviewer makes muffins out of her juice pulp, but I'm sticking to healthy liquid and putting the residue in the garden!

I have to say that even the strange sounding ingredient mixes taste superb but here's my own favourite detox recipe:

Red healthy detox drink:

  • 3 golden delicious apples (they have the best taste)
  • 1 slice lemon
  • 1 small piece ginger
  • 1/2 cucumber
  • 2 stalks celery (and leaves if available as we have in Cyprus)
  • 1 small piece raw beetroot (adds colour and sweetness)
  • 2 carrots
  • 1/2 pepper (yellow or red is best)

Juice the whole lot, stir and enjoy!

Tip: This is great mixed with water, which we did when out with friends for a meal on Sunday. Didn't miss the wine at all;)

Now for some favourite concoctions that I have already made more than once.

Banana smoothie with a difference:

  • 3 golden delicious apples
  • 2 slices pineapple
  • 1 ripe avocado
  • 2 bananas

Juice the appples and piineapple, then add the bananas and avocado and hand blend in the jug for an amazing smoothie. Yum.

The perfect green smoothie:

  • 3 golden delicious apples
  • Large handful spinach
  • 1/2 cucumber
  • 2 sticks celery with leaves if available
  • 1 ripe avocado

Juice everything except the avocado, then add it to the juice and use your hand blender to create the perfect green smoothie.

Tip: The reason you shouldn't put some fruit and veg like bananas, mangos and avocados into the juicer is because, due to their texture, they clog up the filter preventing any actual juice coming through.

So now I've shared my best juicer recipes, what are you waiting for? Get juicing!
