Traveling between cities in Cyprus

by Maria
(NY,NY. US)

We are two American women who will arrive in Larnaca on Dec 12. We are reluctant to drive as we are not accustomed to driving on the opposite side of the road for us- particularly with standard shift.

I have been reading as much info as I can find and it appears our main options are driving or buses. We only have 9 days and buses could be tricky.

Could we arrange for transfers between different cities? We would like to visit two towns in North Cyprus as well as Cyprus. Please let me know what your thoughts are. Thank you.

Getting around Cyprus without a hire car

You can certainly book taxi transfers between towns in Cyprus, but it will be expensive compared to using the bus.

The bus service is very good in the Republic of Cyprus (Greek side) and connects all major towns plus the local bus services from each town cover all the villages and smaller towns eg. there is an hourly service from Paphos to Polis on the north west of the island costing only a few Euros.

I'm not sure about the bus service in the TRNC (Turkish speaking side).

You can cross the border on foot at Nicosia and then discover how to get to Kyrenia (Girne) by bus or maybe take a taxi there.

For taxi costs check this taxi quotation link and see bus timetables here.
