What is the weather like for walking in Troodos Mountains the second week of December ? We are considering staying in Platres? Do you recommend any good hotels ?

December is a great month for walking in the Troodos!
Expect temperatures around 12-15 degrees C (on the coast temperatures are around 16-20 C) with cool fresh air and amazing views as clarity in December is excellent as there is no heat haze to spoil the views!
There is a reasonable chance of rain in December - we did get a couple of weeks rain in December last year but that was unusual as we hardly saw a drop in the previous 3 years - but keen walkers usually don't mind that if they come prepared with the right walking kit. There is also a possibility of snow but most of the snowfall happens comes in January-March in Cyprus.
If it does snow it won't last long and you can always have a go at skiing if it does!
Platres is a good choice for accommodation as it is the main resort in the Troodos. I would recommend staying in the Pendeli hotel which has a pool and is excellent value for money, the Helvetia (a bit more pricey but charming) or check out other hotels in Platres by clicking here.
