Markets for fresh produce in Cyprus

by Julie
(UK)

We are visiting Cyprus at the beginning of August, staying in Skoulli.

Do you know of any local markets selling fresh produce?
Also where to go to find bargain leather goods?

Many thanks
J

Where to buy fresh produce in western Cyprus
by: Helen (website owner)

Skoulli is located on the north west of Cyprus close to to the town of Polis. While Polis does not have a regular weekly market, your best bet is to visit one of the many froutarias which sell fresh fruit and vegetables, picked from the fields locally that morning.

We use Kaite froutaria (which means fruit shop) located in Prodromi close to the bowling alley and opposite the Alkio nest apartments.

On the first Sunday of each month there is also now a Farmers market at the herb garden in Pano Akourdalia (a short drive from Skoulli) - there isn't a huge amount of produce there and it varies on the season, but it's a lovely way to spend a morning!

Paphos has a daily market in the old town, but I don't think the produce there is any better than what you can buy in the fruitarias. Your other option is to visit the local supermarket.

Re leather goods, visit the old town in Paphos where there is a labyrinth of stalls selling souvenirs, leather goods etc. You are sure to find a bargain there.
