Sailing Holiday in Cyprus

Cyprus appears to be very poorly supported when it comes to hiring a bareboat sailing yacht for a week, and the actual sailing area looks restricted. Am I correct?

You are right Mike, there aren't many companies hiring sailing boats for the following reasons:

1 Cyprus is not that close to other islands/mainland. Because the island is divided boats registered in Cyprus cannot sail to the nearest mainland (Turkey) and while Syria/Israel and Egypt are potential destinations, they are not high on the list of people looking to do island sailing.

2 Around Cyprus itself you really only have Larnaca, Limassol, Paphos and then Latchi as stop off points - effectively a sail around the island's coast (you can't enter Turkish controlled TRNC areas in the north of the island) - so it's not that much fun unlike sailing around the Greek islands or the Turkish Coastline for instance.

There are plenty of privately owned yachts and you can take trips on some of them. Some people do sail over from the Greek islands but it's a fair distance and for experienced sailors only as seas can be rough.
