PANERI TAVERN, MESOGI, PAPHOS

Always the highlight of our visit to Cyprus, this tavern was originally the home of the owner's wife's family and Georgia and Chris transformed it into a very typical Cypriot Tavern offering excellent authentic Cypriot dishes with a special signature Paneri sauce made by the very capable Georgia (who speaks very little English).

For just 12.60 euros you will be served with traditional dips, hot fresh pitta bread, garlic potatoes, beetroot, olives and fresh greek salad with feta cheese for starters, then you have a choice of main course of steaks, chicken breast with the secret recipe Paneri sauce, lamb chops, or pork. For a little more you could opt for a full meze or choose fresh fish the day before.

To follow you will be served fresh fruit of apples, grapes, melon and occassionally a surprise fruit. To top all of this you have the very attentive service from Chris or a family member when they are exceptionally busy and their invitation of joining them for a drink before you are presented with a very pleasant bill.

When visiting Cyprus, venture into Mesogi village, just opposite the community centre, up behind the Mesogi Arms you will find the tavern. Pop in, say hello to Chris and Georgia and enjoy genuine authentic Cypriot hospitality and cuisine.

by: LiNada and Kenny Raine

We use this restaurant every time we visit Cyprus which is 3 or 4 times a year.
Chris and his wife Gergia are always so welcoming and more importantly to the reader of this their food is fantastic. Freshly sourced and freshly cooked . We visit many many tavernas and always compare them to this and for quality, freshness, and friendly atmosphere it is unbeatable.

Traditional Cypriot taverna

Thanks for your recommendation Karen. I have made a note to try the Paneri next time I am in the Mesogi area.

There are many excellent Cypriot tavernas hidden away in the villages and this sounds like another great choice.
