Off site camping in Cyprus

Is it possible (according to the local law) to camp outside official camp sites in the nature reserves? If not in the reserves is it possible outside of them?

I'm not 100% sure of the law, but it's certainly possible to camp almost anywhere here in Cyprus - in summer many people do! Especially on the Akamas where I do know it is illegal.

If you do decide to camp away from official camp sites PLEASE take your rubbish away afterwards. Many people, usually Cypriot locals and not foreigners, spend their summer holiday near the beach or in one of the reserves, bring a huge amount of gear with them and then leave all their rubbish behind. It's disgraceful. If you bring something into an area, then please take it away again afterwards.
