Latchi Cyprus

Welcome to Latchi Cyprus, a delightful fishing harbour and marina, otherwise known as Lakki or Latsi dependent on which map you are using!

latchi cyprus Latchi Cyprus Harbour

Once a tiny fishing harbour, Latchi, Cyprus has grown considerably over the last 10 years, now boasting a large marina, yet it still retains its unique charm.

It is situated on the north west of the island close to the unspoilt Akamas peninsula.

Latchi is named after the old Greek word for water hole or well - "lakki".

Many years ago, before tourism came to Cyprus, local farmers would bring their livestock down from the hills en route to market and stop for a coffee at Latchi. There were several "lakkis" available for their animals to get fresh water...and so the little town got its name.

What to Find in Latchi Cyprus

What will you find when visiting or staying in Latchi:
  • fishing boats lining the old harbour
  • a brand new marina, housing many elegant yachts, along with larger tourist boats for exploring the Akamas.
  • smart tavernas with welcoming stone fronts and sparkling new interiors. All of the tavernas have been renovated in the last few years.
  • cafe bars and beach-side venues on platforms outside some of the tavernas.
  • the familiar enticing aroma of fresh fish, emanating from every restaurant, sizzling on the grill.
  • the inevitable coffee shop - Coffee Island on the harbour opened in 2020.
  • the old disco (yes Latchi DID have one) closed down some years ago, but I believe it's for sale if you fancy taking on a new business venture!

Best Time to Visit Latchi Cyprus

Latchi is at its busiest in the summer months and is best avoided, in my opinion, in the middle two weeks of August, when many Cypriots are on holiday in the area.

The best time to visit Latchi is in May to July and then September to October.

Although it is quiet in the low season from November to March, it is the perfect time to visit if you are an outdoor enthusiast.

Where to Stay in Latchi

Looking for a hotel in Latchi?

Choose from the The Anassa, a luxurious spa hotel if you have a large budget. But note that it is 4km from the harbour, so not so easy to walk into town to sample the tavernas.

Or perhaps the Souli hotel - in an excellent location at the far end of the beach and only a few minutes walk into town. The hotel is very popular and has been renovated during lockdown in early 2021.

My personal favourite as it's good value and right on the harbour is the Y & P hotel, named after Yiangos and Peter, the founders of the restaurant in front of the hotel.

It also has one the best fish tavernas in Latchi where fish meze is the speciality.

Latchi, Cyprus is a great place to stay if you want a relaxing break far from the tourists crowds and it's also a GREAT place to live. You could even build your dream home here on a hillside overlooking the bay like we did.
