Cyprus border crossing with hire car

by DAVID CRANSTON

I am visiting Kyrenia in March, and I can only get a flight to Larnaca. Being slightly disabled I need a car, is there a car hire company that will allow me to take a car from South to North? I will need the car for four days only, can you please help me?

Car hire in Northern Cyprus

You won't find a car hire company based in the South of the island that will allow you to cross the border with their rental car. Likewise, car hire companies based in the North - the TRNC - will not cross the border to deliver a hire car to Larnaca airport for you.

This is due to government regulations and also because insurance won't cover you when you cross from either side.

My best advice is for you to use a car hire company based in the North. You will have to use a locally based firm as most of the well known hire car companies do not operate in the TRNC.

They will send a taxi to pick you up at Larnaca airport for a low cost and take you to Kyrenia to pick up your hire car.

North Cyprus Car Hire, for example, charge GBP £35 one-way to pick you up from Larnaca airport and take you to their office to pick up your car.
