Christmas and Cycling in Cyprus

My partner (keen cyclist) and I are considering spending a week in Cyprus at Christmas 2012.

Is there any specific location or hotel that people would recommend which is cyclist-friendly - or maybe a good bike hire place ? Which areas of the island are best for cycling ?

At Christmas, is it likely that most of the historic sites / museums would still be open to tourists?

Are there other tours / trips /events that might occur around Christmas (or does everything close down in the same way as the UK does !)

Thanks. :-)

Cycling in Cyprus and places to stay
by: Ruth

Hi there
I have an apartment in Peyia village which is between Paphos and Polis, here you would be nearer to the mosaics in Paphos harbour , and tomb of the kings ,in Paphos there is also the catacombs, and the church that Paul/Peter is connected with. See
My Hideaway for details. There are plenty of tavernas in Peyia or just down the road in Coral Bay

Cycling over Xmas in CYprus

You don't say whether you are road cyclists or mountain bikers, but either way, my recommendation is to stay on the north west near Polis and Latchi.

All hotels and hotel apartments will welcome cyclists and you can hire bikes from Wheelie Cyprus based near Polis.

See my Polis accommodation page for where to stay.

The tourist sites like the Mosaics and Tombs of the Kings are all open over the Christmas period. Please note however that shops will be closed over the Bank Holidays ie. 25th and 26th December.

See also my page on cycling in Cyprus for tips on where to ride.
