Winter holiday in Cyprus

We are thinking of going to Cyprus in January for a month. Will there be enough to do and what will the weather be like and what part of Cyprus should we stay?

Cyprus in the winter months
by: Helen

First of all, read my page on winter holidays in Cyprus. This will give you information on what to expect during January/February in terms of weather, clothing required etc.

I can only advise on the best place to stay in winter if I know more about what you like to do when on holiday. If you are outdoor lovers and enjoy walking/cycling, then come to the north west near Polis and Latchi, though be warned that it is very quiet in this area during January and many restaurants are closed.

If you prefer bigger resorts, then head for Paphos, Limassol or Larnaka. If you want to see snow, head for the Troodos mountains, though I would not advise staying there for a whole month as the roads can become impassable if there is heavy snowfall.

Perhaps Paphos would be a good base with a good choice of accommodation then you can visit Polis/Latchi and the Akamas which is only a 40 minute drive away.

Basically, unless you are ardent beach lovers, then there's plenty to do in Cyprus in the winter - see my 101 things to do list - the beaches will also be empty though the water will be cold!
