Crossing border into the North

It is easy to cross the border from south to northern Cyprus, but most rental car companies will not let you take the car across for insurance reasons.

We do know that many people take a risk and buy insurance at the border (this is compulsory if you cross into the TRNC and you can't cross without it) then hope they don't have an accident. So only take your rental car across at your peril.

Depending on the time of year it is possible to walk to Famagusta from the border. Just cross on foot and take a stroll...
