Kakopetria village picture in Cyprus

We need to escape for some R and R in Cyprus as we have been posted to Jerusalem (UN) from the UK.

Your website if fantastic and I wonder if you can help us find something that is atmospheric, comfortable and within striking distance of Nicosia and in the mountains (husband in Gaza a lot so needs a change).

We love trekking but wil be bringing an 8 year old daughter. Agrotourism website properties are wonderful but we don't know the layout of the island and I don't want to land up in a busy tourist spot. Please can you recommend something for us. arriving 4th or 5th for 5 nights - definitely coming just need something to book that is wonderful

Help!!

Agrotourism accommodation near Lefkosia (Nicosia)
by: Helen

For rural agrotourism accommodation near Nicosia you are best looking in the Troodos mountain area which is approximately 45 minutes from Nicosia.

I would highly recommend the beautiful mountain village of Kakopetria, easily accessed from the main B9 road out of the capital. There are many nature trails close by and you have a choice of accommodation. Our favourite is the Linos inn (see our Troodos hotels page for more details). The other nice hotel the Mill is closed between Nov and end December.

Alternatively, try the villages of Askas, Polistipos or Tsakistra all offering agroturism accommodation in the Nicosia area. These will ALL be unspoilt, far from the "madding crowds" although it's fair to say that early December is pretty quiet all across the island so wherever you stay outside of the main towns you will find things pleasantly quiet.

NB - Do bring suitable clothing for mountain walking as temperatures can be quite cold especially at night in the Troodos mountains. Days are bright, sunny but cool.

Enjoy!

Helen
