Andreas Tsalapatis has been making wine near Polemi village just outside Stroumpi for over 20 years. He is an amazing warm hearted character who has a true love for his winemaking, which shows when you go for a tasting. Anything not up to his usual high standards, perhaps as the wine has been in the bottle for just a little too long, will get the thumbs down from Andreas and he will not let you buy it. Andreas endeavours to produce only good quality wines and he has a good selection to choose from. The winery produces some 100,000 bottles a year across a range of labels including the dry white Regina and the everyday red Marganos.These are excellent value for money for quality everyday drinking wines.
Tasting takes place underneath the winery building in the wine cave. You can try the white Sauvignon Blanc, one of the few wineries to grow this grape on the island, a rich Shiraz, rosé wines and also the full bodied "king" of reds called Rigas. If you visit at the right time in spring you can also sample wine straight from the vat. Do make an effort to seek out this vastly under-rated winery - turn right towards Tsada and Letymbou in the middle of Polemi village and the Tsalapatis winery is situated 3km along the road on your right.
