Another favourite Cyprus restaurant - Mansoura Tavern

Mansoura Tavern run by Choulla and Andreas

Mansoura tavern Cyprus

This cyprus restaurant - Mansoura tavern is a REAL gem and its speciality is the freshest fish you can possibly eat as Andreas catches the fish THAT morning.

The taverna is situated in one of the most remote parts of the island (Greek Cypriot side). It's remote as it is only 5 km from the border separating the Greek and Turkish sides of the island.

The closest town is Kato Pyrgos and Mansoura tavern is reached by taking the coast road from Polis and driving north for 45 mins along the coast road via some of the wildest countryside imaginable.

At Pachyammos, the coast road is interrupted due to a small Turkish "owned" enclave known as Kokkino.

This enclave was taken over by the Turks in the 1960's and, as a result, there is a 40 minute detour up the hill on one side and down the other to reach the tiny village of Mansoura on the other side.

But PLEASE don't let that put you off. Choulla will give you the warmest of welcomes and the enticing aroma of fresh fish, smouldering on the BBQ will tantalise your taste buds.

On our last visit we had some kind of mini "shark" marinated in lemon juice, fresh herbs and olive oil which was simply amazing.

This favourite Cyprus restaurant - the Mansoura tavern is set on an outcrop above the waters edge - you really feel you have gotten away from it all out there.

TIP: It's always a good idea to ring Choulla before you go, especially in low season when there are fewer visitors and the taverna may be closed. The tel. number is: 00357 26522493
