Cyprus President is to Blame for the July Explosion

The independent report commissioned by President Christofias has concluded that the President himself is responsible for the tragic explosion that killed 13 people and left the island without power back in July this year.

It may not have been the conclusion the President expected, but at least the result meant that the report was hardly biased or that the person responsible for wirting it was manipulated in any way.

To remind you, the explosion occurred on July 11th when 98 containers of gunpowder epxloded having been kept in the open in full sun for over two years. In the ensuing months, work has taken place to restore much of the power at the stricken power plant, aided now by the lull in the tourist season, when demand is far lower.

While the recent report has laid full blame on Christofias, the President has decided that he is not to blame at all and is resolutely ignoring both the report's conclusions and calls for him to resign.

New Akamas Spa Resort is now Fully Open

A brand new health spa with a difference has recently opened near Polis. The resort also offers membership for local residents at only €50 per month and special healthy lunches such as the Sunday special for just €9.95 which includes complimentary use of the spa facilities.

The staff are highly trained and very professional and the prices very reasonable. So the next time you are visiting, pop along to the Akamas Resort. And if you're a local, make use of the facilities at a great price.

New Restaurants open in Polis and Paphos

It's been a while since I updated everyone on new restaurants in Polis and Paphos so here's what's new in terms of the Cyprus latest news Oct11.

Molos restuarant opened for the summer season in Latchi harbour. Owned and run by the same team behind the popular Finikas restaurant in Polis sqaure, Molos is an upmarket bistro located next to Latchi watersports right on the harbour.

There is a wide menu including fish dishes with a difference like the sea bream cooked in a bag with peppery vegetables. It's the perfect spot for breakfast or a glass of wine after a day on the water and the atmosphere is light and cool in keeping with the cream decor.

Del Sol opened in Paphos on Tomb of the Kings road in August this year. The second restaurant in Cyprus in the chain, the first being in Limassol, Del Sol offers Lebanese-inspired exotic Mediterranean and International cuisine using the best quality ingredients.

Homemade desserts are a speciality apart from the mouthwatering selection of starters and main courses, so if you are tired of the same old bought-in desserts on offer in most tavernas, try Del Sol. It's not cheap, but worth the price for a special night out.
