Golf Courses in Cyprus
Cyprus currently has 4 golf courses, all located close to Paphos:
Tsada golf club - Par 71, 6830 yards. Designed by Donald Steel and situated at 500m, allowing cool summer breezes. Now renamed Minthis Hills golf club, in line with the golf properties currentyly being built at Minthis Hills.
Secret Valley - Par 72, 6737 yards. Opened in 1996 and designed as a championship course.
Aphrodite Hills - Par 71, 6855 yards. Designed by Cabell Robinson, a championship standard course built on two plateaux, separated by a dramatic ravine and with spectacular sea views. Players have to use a buggy to get round the course.
Elea Estate golf club - Par 71 18-hole, as the other courses. BRAND NEW, opened in late 2010 and designed by Nick Faldo. Situated just outside Paphos near Geroskipou.
Golf Villas in Cyprus
While you can book a Cyprus golf holiday with either a specialist golf vacation company or as part of package deal with one of the big tour operators, a more personalized option is to rent one of the many golf villas in Cyprus.
The Aphrodite Hills resort has some stunning properties for rent or you can look for a privately owned villa or apartment in the Paphos area.
Alternatively, stay in luxury at a five star hotel in Paphos or find the best price from a comprehensive list of all hotels in Paphos.
Golf Breaks in Cyprus
One thing to consider about golf breaks in Cyprus is the high cost of green fees. I don't actually play the game, but when friends told us how much it costs to play golf in Cyprus, I was shocked.
However, if you book through a specialist golf holiday company, you can get a great deal on 5 star golf resorts like Aphrodite Hills.
Prices at the new Nick Faldo Elea golf course are certainly pretty steep. The cheapest green fees on the Elea website are €75.00 in low season (December) rising to €115 in high season (Feb-May and Sept-Nov). It costs €80.00 to play in July and August but you either need to get up at 5am or be prepared to literally fry on the golf course in 40 degree temperatures! BUT you can get a good deal for 3 nights 5 star accommodation plus green fees here.g(19114)a(1394124))
That said, there are not many places in the Northern hemisphere where you can enjoy temperatures in the mid 20's in November, so there is a price to pay if you want to play golf in the sun when it's freezing in the rest of Europe!
So try a Cyprus golf holiday or just play a round or two on your next visit to the island.
Enjoy!
