Best place in Cyprus for beach plus peace and quiet

Great site, I have been reading through a lot of your articles with great interest and wondered if you could help me further?

We want to come to Cyprus at the end of September for 2 weeks. We want a bit of beach and enough places to eat, but we also like peace and quiet (my wife has a very stressful job) when we are away, could you recommend a good place for us to stay.

Also, I am really a traveler so not into paying loads of money for a roof over my head, any ideas? And finally,in your restaurant guide you have used a star system for prices, last time we were away (2 years ago) we paid 6 euros for calamaris with salad and bread in Slovenia, how would that compare in Cyprus, thank you for any help you can give us and thank you for a great site.

Kind regards Martin

Where to stay in Cyprus for relaxation, beaches and value for money
by: Helen (website owner)

If you want to be near beaches yet far from the tourist crowds, the best place to head for is the north west of the island near Polis and Latchi.

The beaches here are a mix of shingle and sand and you are close to the Akamas peninsula and Paphos forest area for nature walks, cycling or just getting away from it all. A short car journey will also take you up into the hills to savour the real Cyprus, mountain villages and best value for money food.

You can stay at the Y and P Latchi hotel right on the harbour for 60 euros a room per night bed and breakfast or for a cheaper option, choose one of the hotel apartments in Polis like the Stefanos apartments - see my Polis accommodation page. You can also cook your own food there to save money.

Don't expect to find calamari for 6 euros though! You can get lunchtime specials on Latchi harbour for under 8 euros but calamari and salad will cost a minimum of 10 euros in most tavernas.

Best value is in the hills! For example, Our local Fytos taverna just outside Kathikas village (15 mins from Polis) offers any grilled food eg. pork chops, sheftalia or kebabs, salad, dips, accompanying vegetables with grilled food, chips plus dessert all for 10 euros. Wine is also far cheaper than at tavernas on the coast. You just have to search out the best places.
