Best camping around Akamas peninsula

Do you have any tips for camping in more secluded spots, either organised camping or wild, (we are very clean campers) on or near Akamas Peninsula? Is there public transport available to get onto Akamas? We, 2 people, will have a small tent and backpacks and can hike a little with it too, if the camping is off the beaten track. What would you recommend, we have 5 days in total and want to experience nature and beaches before running a project in Nicosia. Thank you Alexandra

Camping on the Akamas
by: Helen

While many locals, usually from outside the area, do camp on the Akamas Peninsula itself during the summer months, it is actually illegal. They come with 4x4's full of stuff, spend days on the beautiful peninsula and then most of them leave their rubbish where they camped when they depart.

I cannot give you advice where to camp out there as the fewer people there are out there the better, even if you are clean campers and will take out what you brought in.

The Polis camp site is a fun place to camp and is secluded and right next to the sea. It has full facilities and a bar serving food and drinks.

If you decide you want to camp wth the rest of the locals out on the peninsula, you will need to hike 5-6km from the Baths of Aphrodite. Thdere is a bus that takes you to the Baths.
