Best authentic hotel/guest house in Cyprus

Wild orchids in Western Cyprus

Wild orchids in Western Cyprus

My husband and I have been to Cyprus twice (first discovered the herb rocket/rocquette there, years ago before it became popular here in the UK).

However, both times I don't feel we really got to know the island because we stayed in typically tourist hotels in Paphos and didn't venture very far!

Older and wiser and more adventurous now, we'd like to return and, spurred on by your fabulous website, get to know "real" Cyprus a bit better.

Could you perhaps recommend somewhere more authentic to stay - and the best time of the year to come. Many thanks.

Discover "real" Cyprus
by: Helen

I'm totally biased as we live on the North West side near Polis but this area is the place to discover "real" Cyprus!

I added a photo taken today of the most amazing field of wild wavy leaf monkey orchids - these were just a few of the hundreds/thousands? we saw while mountain biking today on the hills between Paphos and Polis ie. best time to visit is in the spring when everything is wonderfully green, temperatures are still warm (19 degrees today) yet it's not too hot yet and the landscape is not parched and dry. Oh and the wild herbs smell amazing!

For staying near the coast, the Y&P Latchi Hotel is a good option. Or try the Paradisos hotel in Lysos - a tiny stone built boutique hotel near the pine forest. or rent an apartment or villa in Argaka, a few hundred metres from the beach - prices are excellent in the low season Nov-end March and many companies throw in car hire for free at this time.

Enjoy!

Helen
